Jason Frank, Artist Bio
Jason Frank (also known as Jason Turnstone) is an artist and naturalist based in Ortonville.
Primarily a photographer, he is currently at work assembling a body of work with a focus on elemental cycles of growth, decay, and regeneration framed as abstract expressionist scenes, with special emphasis on regional plant life, trees, wetlands, and exposed bedrock. Seeking out strange forms amid driftwood snags and faces peering out from lichen-spangled outcrops, he is always on the lookout sights that evoke the mythical essence of landscapes defined by volcanism, glaciation, and erosion. Currently, his work is rooted in the southwestern and northeastern corners of Minnesota: the Upper Minnesota River Valley, and the far North Shore of Lake Superior around Grand Portage.
