Joyce Meyer, Artist Bio
While balancing a career in education spanning over 30 years and raising a family on our farm in the southwest corner of Lac qui Parle County, I also developed a keen interest in photography. My journey as a self-taught photographer guided by the school of “trial and error” led me to uncover the possibilities of the darkroom and double exposure film techniques, resulting in the creation of ethereal “ghost” images. This darkroom and film experience has influenced my digital work style, utilizing several layers blended to produce one composite piece often with texture layers and enhancement techniques.
In 2020, I delved into ceramics due to the pandemic, seeking a creative outlet while staying home on the farm. The pottery shed remains a source of joy for me, where I’ve developed an organic style focusing on hand-building and sculpture. My artistic inspiration draws from the prairies of southwest Minnesota and diverse global cultures.
